Owner, The Finishing School
At the age of 12, living in New York City, George Reiff asked his mother for a guitar “that looks exactly like Paul McCartney’s guitar.” To his surprise, it was a bass guitar and it became his chosen instrument. At 16, his family moved to Texas where soon he would focus on a career as a bass player. Since then he has toured, played and/or recorded with many groups and artists, including Joe Walsh, The Dixie Chicks, Jakob Dylan, Chris Robinson, Charlie Sexton, The Jayhawks, Cotton Mather, Courtyard Hounds, Joe King Carrasco, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Ian Mclagan and many others.
When he’s not on the road or playing local gigs, you’ll find George in the studio. After traveling for a few years between London and Texas, he settled in Austin where he runs The Finishing School, an analog/digital recording studio. Some recent productions include Ray Wylie Hubbard, Shinyribs, The Band of Heathens, Uncle Lucius, Lincoln Durham and Cotton Mather.
After music, George’s second love is cooking and he has worked as a pastry chef or food consultant with many notable Austin restaurants. Active in all sorts of ways in the Austin Music community, he believes in this city and the endless potential of it’s music and musicians.
