Western Youth staggers artfully between Americana, folk, and honest American rock and roll. Smart, moody lyrics and sublime three/four-part harmonies meld with searing guitar riffs and intricate arrangements showcasing a defiant yet evolving band on the rise.
2018 was a banner year for the group. After acquiring management and formally welcoming Graham Weber into the fold in 2017, last year saw the release of their first full length album in late September–a project that had been in the works for nearly 5 years. That much-awaited release brought the band a lot of acclaim and exciting opportunities, including being named Artist of the Month by both Austin360/Statesman as well as the Austin Music Foundation where they were also honored as part of their 2018 Artist Development Program. Western Youth also received their first official invitation to SXSW in 2018, and played several out of town dates in 2018, most notably at AmericanaFest in Nashville.
Still high off their 2018 LP, Western Youth are already back to writing and recording new material in 2019. They are an official SXSW artist again this year, with 12 shows on their schedule, and were recently named one of Austin’s 12 ‘Can’t Miss’ Bands of the Festival by the Austin Chronicle. They are looking to travel even more in 2019 with possible trips to LA on the horizon as well as a hopeful return to Nashville at least once within the year.
